Titanic Museum Attractions hosting U.S. tributes to Titanic crew and passengers

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. and BRANSON, Mo. – Titanic Museum Attractions is hosting “A Night to Remember: An Original Musical Tribute to Titanic,” on Saturday, April 14, the 100th anniversary of the night the ship struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage. Musical performances, historic ceremonies and appearances by actual descendants of Titanic’s passengers and crew will highlight the production honoring the 2,208 people aboard the ship. The musical tribute will begin at noon (Central) on April 14 at the Titanic Museum Attraction in Branson, Missouri, and at 8:30 p.m. (Eastern) the same day at the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Tickets for the unique historical tribute are available beginning Monday, February 20, by calling 800-381-7670.

“There will be ceremonies across the globe to commemorate the Titanic centennial on April 14, but the only place in the United States where guests can attend a formal tribute is at one of the Titanic Museum Attractions,” said John Joslyn, co-owner of Titanic Museum Attractions and co-leader of the first private expedition to visit the ship’s final resting place on the ocean floor.

“A Night to Remember” will use choirs, orchestras and musical theater performances to bring the stories and drama of that fateful night to life for those attending the one-time only tribute.

“From folk ballads to modern pop, people have always used music as a way to commemorate historic events,” said Joslyn. “Titanic was memorialized in song before and after her sinking, so a tribute centered on music seemed an appropriate way to pay our respects.”

Adding to the historic occasion, descendants of people aboard the Titanic’s maiden voyage will also be present at the American tributes. The ceremony will conclude with a symbolic reenactment of the launching of Titanic’s distress flares and the lighting of a memorial flame at the bow of the ship to honor the 2,208 people aboard Titanic.

“The anniversary will be commemorated around the world in television, film, and print,” said Josyln. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for people to be more than passive witnesses to the anniversary. ‘A Night to Remember’ gives the audience a chance to actually be a part of the historic event and part of the community dedicated to preserving Titanic’s legacy.”

Tickets to “A Night to Remember: An Original Musical Tribute to Titanic” are available through the Titanic Museum Attractions in Missouri and Tennessee. Visitors may purchase tickets by phone at (800) 381-7670 beginning February 20, 2012. In addition to museum admission and the musical production, ticket holders will receive limited edition memorials dedicated to the ship’s history, including a DVD containing video tributes of the personal stories of selected passengers and crew.

The Titanic Museum Attractions are located in Branson, Missouri, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Together, the two museums represent the largest permanent monuments in the world dedicated to the memory of Titanic. Titanic Museum Attraction hosts President of Titanic Historical Society for memorial rose petal ceremony

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – Edward Kamuda, founder and president of the Titanic Historical Society, came to the Titanic Museum Attraction today to participate in the museum’s memorial rose petal ceremony, part of the museum’s special way of honoring the passengers aboard the world’s most famous and luxurious ocean liner as the 100 Year Anniversary of RMS Titanic’s maiden voyage approaches.

Noted explorer, adventurer, and co-owner of the Titanic Museum Attraction, John Joslyn, and Jaynee the Titanic First Class Maid also participated in today’s ceremonies.

It has been 99 years since a lookout in the crow’s nest shouted, “Iceberg right ahead!”  For the twelve months leading up to April 15, 2012, when it will have been a century since the RMS Titanic was lost, Titanic Museum Attractions will pay respect to and honor those 2,208 passengers and crew members with an ongoing series of special events, activities and ceremonies.

First-Ever Wedding at Titanic Museum Attraction in East Tennessee

Knoxville, Tenn. – The new Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. had its first-ever wedding last Friday morning when Casey Hollon and Kevin Foster, both of Savannah, Ga., tied the knot on the ship’s Grand Staircase.

The wedding, attended by approximately 30 friends and family members, was a beautiful event that included the ship’s Captain, the first class maids and the ship’s crew.  The Titanic Museum Attraction’s Grand Staircase, which is an exact reproduction built from actual Titanic blueprints, cost over $1 million to create and serves as the perfect backdrop for a dramatic wedding ceremony.

Titanic Museum Attraction is a half-scale, permanent, three-deck recreation of the Titanic.  The museum houses 20 galleries to display nearly 400 authentic, priceless Titanic artifacts that were either carried from the ship and into lifeboats by passengers and crew, or were found afloat soon after the sinking and quickly salvaged by rescue boats.

WBIR anchor Robin Wilhoit said, “We asked you which Tennessee attractions were your favorite and now your votes are in.  It’s only been open ten weeks, but already Titanic Museum Attraction has cracked the ‘Top Five East Tennessee Attractions.’  The Titanic Museum Attraction is a gigantic replica of the luxury ocean liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean back in 1912.  Since it opened in April, nearly 200,000 passengers have boarded the Titanic.”

Well over 135,000 “passengers” have boarded the new Titanic Museum Attraction in just seven weeks

Knoxville, Tenn. – The new Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. has been open for just two months and already more than 135,000 “passengers” have toured the painstakingly authentic recreation of the world’s most famous ship.

The world’s largest Titanic Museum Attraction, which is also the newest major attraction in the popular resort area surrounding the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is exceeding its business projections in all areas and sells completely out of tickets on most days. Because of the overwhelming response to the new museum, visitors are being urged to purchase tickets in advance or to make reservations by phone.

“I came down from Ohio specifically for the Titanic Museum Attraction,” said Amy Polczynski.  “I fully expected it to be amazing – but it far exceeded all of my expectations.  From the costumed crew members who meet you outside to the exact recreations of the grand staircase and first class suite, everything is so authentic.  It literally makes you feel as though you are standing on board the Titanic.

Wilderness at the Smokies, Titanic Museum Attraction and WonderWorks on Sirius-XM Radio

Christine Eads recently asked Ackermann PR’s Rick Laney to do a travel segment about East Tennessee for Sirius-XM Radio’s national talk show BroadMinded.  Christine and her son came down from Washington, D.C. to East Tennessee for a few days and Rick had the opportunity to show them some of the best new resorts and attractions the area has to offer.

The interview includes Wilderness at the Smokies resort, the new Titanic Museum Attraction and WonderWorks.  All three are clients of Ackermann PR.

More than 20,000 people turn out to launch the Titanic Museum Attraction in East Tennessee

Pigeon Forge, Tenn. –  The new Titanic Museum Attraction in East Tennessee had a star-studded weekend-long Grand Opening hosted by Regis Philbin this weekend. The event also featured numerous descendants and family members of those on board the Titanic and included a christening of the ship by Captain Edward J. Smith.

The weekend-long Grand Opening Celebration at the new Titanic Museum Attraction included the christening, a special Grand Opening ceremony hosted by Philbin, a free concert by country music legend Neal McCoy, a free concert by Beatles cover band Liverpool Legends (hand-picked and managed by George Harrison’s sister), amazing nightly fireworks displays and special events and performances over a three day period.

More than 20,000 guests from all parts of the nation visited the attraction during its opening weekend. During the free evening concerts with Neal McCoy and , standing room only crowds overflowed onto the sidewalks and nearby properties. Traffic on the well-traveled Parkway through Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park came to a halt once the nightly 25-minute fireworks display lit the night sky for miles around.

The Grand Opening Celebration was covered locally by WBIR, WATE and WVLT television as well as television stations from Nashville, Tri-Cities and Chattanooga.  The Knoxville News Sentinel, The Daily Times and The Mountain Press all gave considerable coverage to the special event and radio stations from all over East Tennessee showed up to do live broadcasts.  Nationally, the event was covered by USA Today, The TODAY Show, Regis & Kelly, ABC News, The New York Post and a large number of travel magazines.

Titanic Museum Attraction will open in less than a week

Pigeon Forge, Tenn. – The new Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. will open in less than a week with a star-studded Grand Opening hosted by Regis Philbin. The event, which is open to the public, also will be attended by descendants and family members of those on board the Titanic and includes a christening of the ship.

The weekend-long Grand Opening Celebration at the new Titanic Museum Attraction includes the christening by Philbin, a free concert by country music legend Neal McCoy, a free concert by Beatles cover band Liverpool Legends (hand-picked and managed by George Harrison’s sister), nightly fireworks displays and special events and performances through Sunday, April 11.

Titanic Museum Attraction is a half-scale, permanent, three-deck reproduction of the Titanic. The museum houses 20 galleries to display hundreds of authentic, priceless Titanic artifacts that were either carried from the ship and into lifeboats by passengers and crew, or were found afloat soon after the sinking and quickly salvaged by rescue boats.

Inside the Titanic Museum Attraction, visitors find full-size reproductions (built to actual Titanic blueprints) of Third-Class quarters, a First-Class suite, dining rooms and – the museum’s centerpiece – a $1 million exact reproduction of the Titanic’s Grand Staircase. The First-Class suite in the Titanic Museum Attraction, which is dedicated to Isidor and Ida Straus who co-owned Macy’s Department Stores, was also the cabin used in James Cameron’s blockbuster movie Titanic as Rose’s suite.

A third class cabin

In addition to being a world class museum in the truest sense of the word, Titanic Museum Attraction is also highly interactive and offers a hands-on experience for children, teenagers and adults. The ship is anchored in water to create the illusion of Titanic at sea, and a 90-minute self-guided tour gives guests the sensation of sailing on the original ship’s 1912 maiden voyage. Upon entry, each guest receives a boarding pass bearing the name of an actual Titanic passenger or crew member whose fate is revealed on the Memorial Wall at tour end. Along the way, powerful emotions surface as guests:

  • Walk Titanic’s Grand Staircase
  • Touch the frozen surface of an “iceberg”
  • Feel the chill of that fateful “Starry Night”
  • Study some of the largest, most detailed Titanic models ever built
  • Grip the ship’s wheel and follow the Captain’s commands
  • Tour world-class galleries and the rare historical artifacts they hold
  • Sit in a Titanic lifeboat and listen to actual survivors tell their stories
  • Send an SOS from the Marconi Wireless Room
  • Test their balance while standing on mini-decks built to show the ever-steeper slope of Titanic as she sank
  • Watch children eight years and younger explore the special interactive Tot-Titanic Play-and-Learn Room
  • Dive to Titanic’s wreck site via spectacular underwater camera footage

Titanic Museum announces weekend-long celebration schedule including Neal McCoy and Liverpool Legends

Pigeon Forge, Tenn. – As part of its weekend-long Grand Opening festivities, the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge announced today that country music legend Neal McCoy and Beatles cover band Liverpool Legends (hand-picked and managed by George Harrison’s sister) will perform free concerts outside of the new museum at 2134 Parkway in Pigeon Forge.

As the Titanic Museum Attraction is committed to telling the stories of the great ship and her passengers, it also pays tribute to the heritage of Liverpool (home port to the Titanic and hometown to most of her crew) and East Tennessee with its Grand Opening Celebration performances.

No doubt about it, in the 20 years since he released his first single, Neal McCoy – the one-of-a-kind country singer and consummate live performer – has enjoyed every minute of his long, successful career. Even with 11 albums, over 25 charted singles and countless thousands of touring miles already under his big belt buckle, the Longview, Texas-based artist has no intention of slowing down.

In addition to his legendary music career, McCoy says his numerous USO tours have been life changing experiences for him.  His determination to leverage his celebrity status to benefit worthy causes goes way back. In 1995, McCoy and his wife, Melinda, established the East Texas Angel Network. Through fundraising activities, the organization has raised over five million dollars for medical treatments and related costs for children of East Texas with terminal or life-threatening diseases.

Members of Liverpool Legends have toured the world, playing in historic venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Cavern Club in Liverpool, recording at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London and performing with Denny Laine (co-founder of Wings with Paul McCartney), Pete Best (the original Beatles drummer) and the Boston Pops. They appeared on The Travel Channel’s “Beatlemania Britain” and headlined “International Beatles Week” in Liverpool where 100,000 Beatles fans jammed Victoria Street to hear them in concert.

Liverpool Legends received national attention as they re-created The Beatles 1966 concert at Busch Stadium in St. Louis in 2005 and now are the first and only Beatles Tribute band with a direct tie to the Beatles through their manager, Louise Harrison.  Harrison personally auditioned each of the singer/actors who make up the Liverpool Legends.

Liverpool Legends perform songs spanning the entire career of The Beatles and through the solo careers of its members. With precise attention to every musical detail, along with costume changes, vintage instruments and special effects, Liverpool Legends will make you feel like you are watching the real thing. Together, these four lads will bring “A Complete Beatles Experience” to the Titanic Museum Attraction’s grand opening weekend.
