Vista Named Exclusive Radiology Provider at Jellico Community Hospital

KNOXVILLE, TN—Vista Radiology, P.C. became the exclusive radiology services provider at Jellico Community Hospital, Jellico, Tenn., on Friday, February 1. 

A 54-bed nonprofit hospital operated under the direction of the Adventist Health System, the acute care facility has provided quality healthcare to the Jellico community since 1974. The new partnership with Vista significantly expands patient services while enhancing medical technology offered by the hospital.

“We welcome Vista radiology to our region of upper East Tennessee,” said Erik Wangsness, Jellico Community Hospital CEO.

Aaron Shoopman Named Vista Radiology’s New Administrator

 KNOXVILLE, TN Aaron Shoopman, CPA, has been named administrator at Vista Radiology, the largest and most sub-specialized radiology practice in East Tennessee.

As the former chief financial officer for East Tennessee Heart Consultants, Inc., he was responsible for the management and financial operations of that 26-provider physician practice.

Shoopman has 16 years of financial experience in managerial positions ranging from controller/CFO to executive director with several large medical organizations in Knoxville. He is a University of Tennessee Knoxville graduate, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting.

Diagnostic, interventional neuroradiologist Eric Nyberg, M.D., Joins Vista Radiology

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Board certified diagnostic and interventional neuroradiologist Eric M. Nyberg, M.D., is joining Vista Radiology following his fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he was a neuro-interventional clinical instructor.

He will practice in Knoxville alongside vascular/neuro-interventional radiologist Keith Woodward, M.D., enhancing and expanding Vista Radiology’s neuro-interventional specialty.

After completing his residency in diagnostic radiology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Dr. Nyberg completed a neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver. He remained in Denver for an additional neuro-interventional fellowship at InterMountain Neurosurgery at St. Anthony Central Hospital.

Nyberg received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology to perform diagnostic radiology and is a member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.

Prior to Vista, he was employed by Southeastern Retina Associates as the director of IT, overseeing its technological needs in 24 offices throughout five states. While at SRA, Daniel reduced IT costs while improving the company’s technological efficiency. Before his work at SRA, he was a network engineer for Answer Financial Inc. in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Daniel graduated summa cum laude and as class valedictorian from ITT Technical Institute with an associate’s degree of applied science in computer networking and systems technology.

Vista Radiology partnering with Greensboro Radiology for radiology coverage at two N.C. hospitals

KNOXVILLE, TN– Vista Radiology, East Tennessee’s largest and most sub-specialized radiology practices is partnering for after-hours coverage with Greensboro Radiology, the leading diagnostic imaging provider in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina employing 45 board certified radiologists. 

Initially, Vista will be supplementing in-house coverage at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, N.C. and Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.  The two North Carolina hospitals are Vista Radiology’s second and third teleradiology service expansions outside the state of Tennessee in less than a month.

John C. Texada, M.D.KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Cardiopulmonary imaging specialist and board certified radiologist, John C. Texada, M.D., is joining Vista Radiology P.C., from the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Dr. Texada received his medical degree and completed his internal medicine internship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, La.  He completed his radiology residency and his cardiopulmonary imaging fellowship at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham.

Monica Kessi, M.D., Joins Vista Radiology from Hawaii

KNOXVILLE, TENN. –Board certified radiologist, Monica Kessi, M.D.,  has joined Vista Radiology P.C. from Hawaii, working remotely from her Kihei office while improving Vista’s turnaround time, efficiency and patient service.

Monica Kessi, M.D.Although Dr. Kessi will be a member of Vista Radiology in Tennessee, she will continue to live and work on the island of Maui in Hawaii.  Vista’s  Internet-based infrastructure and Picture Archiving Computer System (PACS)  allows her to read radiology films after Vista’s East Tennessee-based physicians go home in the evenings. 

The six-hour time difference between Tennessee and Hawaii makes this method of reading MRIs, CTs and ultrasounds more efficient, thus decreasing turn-around time and on-call coverage costs.

She joins Vista following a diagnostic neuroradiology fellowship with the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Mo.  She completed her diagnostic radiology residency at St. Louis University Hospital and transitional internship year with Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore.  She received her medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Ore. 

Dr. Kessi completed post-baccalaureate/premedicine studies at Portland State University in Oregon after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Portland.  Her memberships include the American Roentgen Ray Society, American Association for Women Radiologists, American Society of Neuroradiology and American Society of Emergency Radiology.

Jason Brant Deen, M.D., Joins Vista Radiology

KNOXVILLE, TENN. –Diagnostic neuroradiologist, Jason Brant Deen, M.D., is joining Vista Radiology P.C., following his fellowship with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston Salem, N.C., where he was a radiologic clinical instructor.

Dr. Deen received his medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greeneville, N.C. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., and his transitional year internship at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. 

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his Master’s degree in physiology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. Deen is certified by the American Board of Radiology to perform diagnostic radiology and will practice in the Knoxville area.

Deen is a member of the American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, American Society of Neuroradiology, Association of University Radiologists, and the Radiological Society of North America. Since 2007, he has given didactic and case-based lectures to radiology house staff and faculty on various neuroradiologic topics.

Steven Edward Repka, M.D., Joins Vista Radiology

Knoxville, Tenn.— Board certified radiologist, Steven Edward Repka, M.D., has joined Vista Radiology, P.C., following an abdominal imaging fellowship with the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Mo.

Dr. Repka completed both his diagnostic radiology residency and transitional internship year at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.   He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and his undergraduate premedicine degree from Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa.

His memberships include the American College of Radiology, Radiologic Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Computed Tomography and MR.

Dr. Repka recently presented and interpreted radiological imaging for multi-disciplinary conferences, such as the Colorectal Conference at Barnes Christian Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and the Cancer and Thoracic Conferences at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
