ETMG Holds Flu Shot Clinic Sept. 4-28

Posted by – August 16, 2012

ALCOA, Tenn. –East Tennessee Medical Group, 266 Joule St., Alcoa, is holding its annual flu shot clinic Tues., Sept. 4 – Fri., Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Most insurance is accepted and no appointment is necessary.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that flu season typically peaks during January and February, but it often begins as early as October. The CDC reports that the 2012-2013 flu vaccines protect against the three strains of the flu virus expected to be most common this year (including the H1N1 virus that caused a pandemic in 2009).

The CDC suggests the flu vaccine for people considered at high risk of serious flu complications, such as: pregnant women, young children, those with chronic health conditions and people 65 years and older.

“ETMG offers our annual clinic early each fall, in order to maximize the vaccine’s preventive effect before flu season is fully underway. The key is to encourage our community to be proactive with vaccinations and other means of everyday prevention. These clinics are intended to benefit the entire region, not just our patients,” said Ron German, CEO of ETMG.
