Crown CEO says Uncle Sam must address real costs in all future healthcare plans or risk America’s solvency

Posted by – June 28, 2012

ATLANTA, Ga. – Crown Financial Ministries CEO Chuck Bentley said that Congress now has the opportunity, if they decide to revisit the problems with the American healthcare system, to make “the kind of financial plan needed to safeguard the solvency of the United States.”

Bentley made the following statement after the Supreme Court’s ruling in the healthcare case: “People may disagree about whether the federal government should direct such a large segment of the economy through regulating healthcare, but most of us will agree that whatever policies we enact as a nation should include understandable projections of cost.

“Governments need the structure of a budget just like any family, and it should be of grave importance to all that our government organizes its funding so that all programs are paid for — and not by running up the national debt or printing valueless dollars. Going forward, the very real concerns Americans have with our healthcare system must be balanced with payment structures that work.”

Recently, the sometimes non-partisan Congressional Budget Office issued a warning that by the end of the year, the U.S. federal debt will reach 70 percent of GDP. That’s the total value of all goods and services produced by every man and woman in America. Just 4 years ago, U.S. debt was only 40 percent of GDP. Without significant reductions in government spending, the CBO says our debt could reach 200 percent of GDP in 25 years.

Federal tax revenues for fiscal year 2012 are projected to be $2.5 trillion. The government will spend, however, close to $3.6 trillion this year, adding another $1.1 trillion to our national debt – now $16 trillion and rising. That is before adding in any government-run healthcare system.

Consider this simple math. Using the CBO’s estimates reduced to a household level an unsustainable budget emerges:

Family Income: $25,000 a year.

Family Spending this year, $36,000

Unsecured debt increase in 2012: $11,000

Total Unsecured debt now: $157,000

“It is important in the coming debates on how to address healthcare concerns that we also make plans for how to pay for our policies,” said Bentley.

Forbes.com article features Ackermann PR client

Posted by – June 22, 2012

KNOXVILLE Biltmore, an Ackermann PR client, was highlighted in a June 18 article written by Forbes.com’s Marianne Bickle.  Bickle, who had recently traveled to Biltmore Estate on business took time while there to “people watch” and examine consumers’ shopping patterns and how they interact with each other.

Bickle describes Biltmore as a “wonder” and said, “to see the Estate is to be humbled and amazed.”  What Bickle was most amazed by was the effect Biltmore had on its visitors, especially families.  According to Bickle, teenagers were “engaged in conversations with their parents.”  “I didn’t see anyone texting, swaying to music with earphones glued to their head or people complaining that they were bored.  Instead, I watched as families talked with one another,” says Bickle.

According to Bickle, Biltmore is a popular vacation destination spot because it has interests appealing to each member of the family.  From touring the home to kayaking, shopping and even touring the trails on a Segway, Bickle explains Biltmore has something for everyone.

Additionally, Bickle highlights The Vanderbilts: At Home and Abroad, Antler Hill Village’s current exhibition documenting George and Edith Vanderbilt’s lifestyle both home and abroad.  As part of this exhibit, artifacts from the Titanic are on display, some on loan from the Titanic Museum Attraction, another Ackermann PR client.  The Vanderbilt’s were originally scheduled to sail on the Titanic, but at the last minute changed their plans to sail on another ship leaving their valet Edwin Wheeler onboard the ship’s ill-fated voyage.  The exhibition shows a unique connection between Biltmore and the Titanic.

Northshore Town Center Announces New Tenants

Posted by – June 20, 2012

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – June 20, 2012 – As the first phase of the Northshore Town Center project launches this summer, the smaller retail shops surrounding Target and Publix are beginning to fill with new occupants.  The large anchor tenants’ newest neighbors will include four area businesses, including Barre3, The Nail Spa, Froyoz and Fusion Tanning Studios.

“We’re thrilled to announce the first retailers to surround our anchor tenants in Northshore Town Center,” said Mike McGuffin, a partner with NMI, LLC.  “This is an excellent location for any retailer to set-up shop. With Publix and Target as neighbors, the benefits will be huge for those who choose to surround them.”

Barre3 will be launching their second Knoxville location at Northshore Town Center.  Founded in 2008, barre3 combines elements of ballet barre, yoga and Pilates, with an emphasis on posture and lengthening. Classes are designed to transform the body to one of equal balance, strength and flexibility.

“We are so excited to bring our second location of barre3 to Tennessee,” said co-owner Whitni Rolfes. “I just know people are going to fall in love with the workout and the community that we our building.”

Fusion Tanning Studios will be unveiling a never-before-seen interior at their new Northshore Town Center location. “This location will mark our tenth store opening in Knoxville and we are excited to share a fresh new look with our clients as soon as they walk through the door,” said Noel Russell, owner of Fusion Tanning Studios.

Fusion offers a wide array of services, including the country’s most popular sunless booth, the Mystic Tan HD and the Hydration Station Spa.

Founded in Knoxville, Froyoz will be opening their fifth area location at Northshore Town Center.  “We have been looking for the perfect opportunity to open a new store in this area and are thrilled to be a part of this project,” said Josh Bishop, one of the owners of Froyoz.

Froyoz is a self-serve frozen yogurt restaurant which offers 14 daily flavors of yogurt and sorbet along with a wide variety of fresh fruit, nuts and candy to top off every serving.

Northshore Town Center represents the second store venture for The Nail Spa which offers full-service manicure and pedicure services as well as eyebrow waxing and eyelash extension services. “We are excited to be part of a retail center that appeals to a wide client base from those in Bearden and Northshore to those in neighboring Blount County,” said owner Lee Do. The Nail Spa currently has a location in Turkey Creek.

Northshore Town Center customers looking for a quick hair cut will have the opportunity to take advantage of Great Clips’ new online check-in service.    “This opening marks our 17th Knoxville-area location and we’re eager to showcase this new check-in app, which will decrease wait time for our customers during peak hours,” said Rob Goggins, the senior vice president of real estate and development for Great Clips, Inc. Great Clips is the world’s largest salon franchise with nearly 3,200 salons across North America.

Northshore Town Center is a 134-acre site located at Pellissippi Parkway and Northshore Drive. The development will contain retailers, restaurants, entertainment, office space, plus single-family homes, multi-family homes, apartments, condos and townhomes, all complemented by a five-acre lake, a park and abundant greenspace.

As both Publix and Target near completion and prepare to open in late July, Northshore Town Center will continue to announce additional tenants over the next several months.

Northshore Town Center is being developed by NMI, LLC, a Knoxville-based development team.  Members of the team include Budd Cullom, Jim Harrison and Mike McGuffin.

ABC News Recognizes Wild Vortex as one of “America’s Amazing Waterslides”

Posted by – June 18, 2012

Sevierville, Tenn - The newly opened Wild Vortex waterslide at Wilderness at the Smokies resort was just named one of “America’s Amazing Waterslides” by ABC News.

This 66-foot tall slide is the only near-vertical, translucent, looping waterslide in the Southeast.  Riders of the Wild Vortex enter a launch capsule at the top of the ride, standing vertically over a trap door.  Once the trap door is released, the rider accelerates into a 39-foot vertical free fall drop generating maximum g-force (2.5 g in less than two seconds) before reaching the inclined loop element.  The entire ride is over within seven seconds.

Wilderness at the Smokies, located minutes from Interstate 40 and situated in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, is one of the area’s only year-round vacation destinations.  With a 36-hole championship golf course, two outdoor waterparks, an indoor waterpark with a wave pool and the Southeast’s only Surf Rider, hot tubs, and countless waterslides and attractions, Wilderness at the Smokies has something for all age groups.  It is adjacent to a 200,000 square-foot conference, convention and event center known for hosting the areas largest conferences, athletic events and trade shows.

Knoxville, Tenn. – Everyone from an outdoor adventure enthusiast to someone who simply loves all that nature has to offer can experience Knoxville from a bicycle seat, paddleboard, canoe, trail, climbing wall and more during Outdoor KnoxFest, a three-day event to be held Friday, Aug. 24 through Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.

According to Carol Evans, Executive Director of the Legacy Parks Foundation, Outdoor KnoxFest will promote a variety of outdoor recreational venues and opportunities throughout East Tennessee while encouraging people of all levels of experience to participate.

“What started as a day-long adventure race, known as the Urban Wilderness Challenge, has now grown into a weekend packed full of activities for athletes and families alike,” said Evans. “Our goal is to promote outdoor activities in Knoxville and to encourage people to participate in those outdoor activities.”

Evans explains Outdoor KnoxFest is the third phase of a three-pronged initiative to capitalize on the exceptional outdoor recreational assets found in and around Knoxville. The Outdoor Knoxville initiative was launched in March 2012 and was Knoxville’s first step toward putting itself on the map as a premier outdoor recreation destination. The most visible presence for Outdoor Knoxville is the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center, the recreational hub for not only Knoxville but also the entire region. Centrally located on the waterfront with easy connections to downtown Knoxville, trails, greenways and a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Outdoor Knoxville is a destination with a unique mix of boutique retail, outdoor equipment rentals and sales, and local events and excursions managed through a partnership between the Legacy Parks Foundation and River Sports Outfitters.

The Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center will be the hub of Outdoor KnoxFest activities which include:

  • An all-day adventure race
  • A 40-mile bike ride organized by the Smoky Mountain Wheelmen
  • A cross-country mountain bike trail designed by the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club
  • A trail run organized by the Knoxville Track Club
  • A variety of guided hikes
  • A community bike ride
  • Family activities
  • Boat and bike demos and rentals
  • A climbing wall
  • Films and speakers

The event will attract participants from throughout the region, including Asheville, Atlanta and Nashville.

Proceeds from the event benefit Legacy Parks Foundation, a Knoxville-based non-profit actively working to make East Tennessee a recreational destination of the Southeast. During the past five years Legacy Parks Foundation has raised more than $3 million for parks, greenways and recreational venues, added more than 200 acres of parkland to Knox County and helped protect nearly 1,000 acres of farm and forest land in East Tennessee.

For more information on or to register for Outdoor KnoxFest, visit www.outdoorknoxville.com. OutdoorKnoxville.com is another facet of the Outdoor Knoxville initiative and serves as a robust, comprehensive portal to all outdoor recreational activities, venues, and events in the East Tennessee region.

Wilderness at the Smokies Resort Brings G-Force Thrills to Waterslide Fun

Posted by – June 7, 2012

Sevierville, Tenn. – The newest waterslide to debut at Wilderness at the Smokies Resort appeals to a certain type of thrill seeker, perhaps one who has wondered what it might be like to be a drop of water inside a water pistol. The Wild Vortex features a trap door launching pad and a gravity-powered loop-the-loop experience at 2.5 g (g-force) and has adrenaline-hungry visitors lining up for a waterslide experience unlike any other ever seen in the Smokies or the Southeast.

Standing 66-foot tall, the slide is the only near-vertical, translucent, looping waterslide in the Southeast.  Riders of the Wild Vortex will enter the capsule at the top of the ride, standing vertically over a trap door.  Once the trap door is released, the rider accelerates into a 39-foot vertical free fall drop generating maximum g-force (2.5 g in less than two seconds) before reaching the inclined loop element.  The entire ride is over within seven seconds.

“The Wild Vortex provides our guests with the opportunity to witness and experience one of the most extreme thrill rides in any water or amusement park in the country,” said Steve Cruz, General Manager of Wilderness at the Smokies.  “It has been an extremely busy year for us as this opening marks the launch of our second major expansion of the year.”

In March, the resort opened Adventure Forest family entertainment park, a ‘dry’ indoor park that has doubled the resort’s indoor park offerings.  It features a three-story ropes course, multi-level enclosed laser tag arena, mini-bowling, black-light mini-golf, more than 100 arcade games, a ‘Laser Maze,’ a 23-foot climbing wall, special birthday party rooms, another restaurant and lounge, plus other attractions and activities that do not involve water.

Cruz added, “We look forward to continuing to expand and providing our guests with a new and enhanced experience each time they choose to vacation with us.”

The resort is owned by Patrick Helland, Pete Helland, Jr., Tim Lucke and Tom Lucke (who also own Wilderness Territory Waterpark Resort in Wisconsin).  Steve Cruz is the General Manager of Wilderness at the Smokies.  For more information about Wilderness at the Smokies, call toll-free 877-325-9453 or visit www.WildernessAtTheSmokies.com.
